Decorate an Umbrella

image
This was such a fun program! The only problem was, it rained while we were working on them, so nobody could bring their work home. Some of the kids really could have used an umbrella for the walk home, too!

I had about 30 umbrellas lying around that I wanted to use. They were originally from the dollar store. (Pro tip: If you’re having an outdoor wedding, use umbrellas as your favors and it will magically not rain).

I let the kids go nuts using ribbons, puffy paint, fabric glue, yarn, rick rack—pretty much any craft supply they wanted to use. I was impressed by how creative the kids were.

I would repeat this program in a heart beat. Even if you have to buy new umbrellas at the dollar store, this is an inexpensive craft, and I like the seasonal aspect.

The only unforeseen drawbacks? We needed a TON of room to work, and I wound up totally monopolizing the back workroom while the umbrellas dried.
