Every year my library hosts a mini-con. It's an awesome program and our patrons get really in to it. This year, we even had Storm Troopers. To help keep the festivities going throughout the week, I hosted two comic-themed tween programs. In addition to making our own comics, we created little puppets. This was pretty inexpensive, and the older tweens really liked it.
I cut the fingers off of one-size-fits-all 'magic' gloves (the stretchy
kind you can get at the drugstore). I used glove scraps to cut strips,
which we used for arms and legs. I also pre-cut faces/circles out of
felt.
Even though this project was assembly based, participants were able to move at their own pace. Some tweens made puppets for younger siblings. We're going to try creating our own puppet show in our new Drama Club. This project took very little prep time--maybe 30 minutes. I spent $3 on gloves, and used leftover felt. I already had googly eyes and glue dots, and we used a touch of glitter glue for smiles.
